Newspaper The newspaper is holding another competition. This competition is for an evolution of writing. Someone from the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade should submit a writing piece they wrote this year. The 8th grade should also submit a piece of writing that was written in the 4th grade or below.


 

 

Basketball Today our basketball teams have away games at Auburn. Good luck Wolverines!


 

 

Lions Club Contest On January 8th the Leicester Lion's Club celebrated the winner of this year's Leicester Lion's Club Peace Poster Contest, Bethany P. Bethany's poster will go on to the next phase of this international contest. The theme for this year was "Journey of Peace", Bethany worked very hard to portray the theme without words of any kind as the contest demands. Good luck Bethany in the next round of the competition!

Railers Tickets & LHS Hockey Anyone who is interested in purchasing tickets for the Leicester High vs. Grafton High Hockey game this Saturday January 11th, 3PM at the DCU Center can buy them from Ms. Looney. Tickets are 12 dollars each and are good for the Worcester Railers vs. Newfoundland Growlers Game which will happen at 7PM. Come cheer on Leicester High School and the Leicester Middle School Band!

Music Congratulations to Taylor R. for being accepted into the Massachusetts All-State Treble Chorus! She will be performing this March in Boston with about 200 other students from across the state.


 

 

School Rules Reminder to all students - hats and hoods are not allowed in school. Remove hats and hoods as you enter the building, and keep them off during the day.



Yearbook
 There is no yearbook meeting this week. Our next meeting will be Friday, January 3.


 

 

Winter Concert Congratulations to all of the student musicians who performed in the Winter Concert last night. HUGE thank you to Mr. Lijoi, Mrs. Johnson, Miss Dusty, Ms. Malek, Mrs. Grove, Mrs. Stapel, and Mr. Fontaine for helping out at the concert. All videos are available on YouTube.

Jingle 5K Congrats to Jason F. for placing 6th overall at the Jingle 5K in Worcester yesterday. His time was good enough to make him the 1st Leicester student to beat Mr. Everett.


 

 

Basketball This Thursday is the first home game for our boys & girls basketball teams. Come out and show your support! The girls play at 3:30 and the boys game starts at 4:30. Go Wolverines!

TCLP Student of the Month James S.has won the November TCLP Student of the month. “Congratulations to the November TCLP Student of the Month for Arabic, James Sweeney. James brings his enthusiasm for learning Arabic outside of class by teaching others Arabic words and explaining their meaning. James is a diligent student and enjoys learning about both Arabic language and culture.”

Library If you have an overdue library book please return or renew it ASAP. A book is overdue when you’ve had it for more than two weeks. Late slips will be handed out to students on Monday during home room.


 

 

Spirit Day Friday will be Wolverine spirit day with a special visit from our varsity football team, who will be in the state semi-finals on Saturday, and our varsity cheerleaders, who won a state competition. Wear your maroon! DO NOT WEAR ORANGE!


 

 

Talent Show The Talent Show is tonight from 6-8pm in the Leicester High School auditorium. The cost of admission is $5. The show will feature 14 student acts, chances for audience participation, and of course, a special video brought to you by your LMS teachers.

Attendance & Behavior Initiative 11/1 - Reminder to students that today we start our Attendance Initiative and our Behavior Initiative. The grade with the highest attendance rate for the month of November and December will earn extra Olympic Foolery points. 11/4 - Reminder to homeroom teachers, please show the attendance video that was emailed out to you last week when announcements are over.

Running Club The Running Club held the 1st Wolverine Invitational on Saturday. Jason F. and Owen C. took 1st and 2nd place overall in the boys race. Both beat the top AMSA runner by over a minute. Michael H. finished 3rd for Leicester. Matthew R. also ran well, taking almost a minute off his time. Lilith F. was Leicester’s top girl and Isabel V. ran her best race of the season. There was also a community race after the meet. Congratulations to Dylan D. and Peyton K. for taking the top boys and girls spots. Cooper W. took 3rd place. Even Mrs. Stapel and Mrs. Johnson joined the run and took 9th and 11th place overall.

Picture Retake Day-November 1st Friday is picture retake day. If you are having your picture retaken, please be sure to bring in your envelope with the $3.00 fee. If you were absent on picture day, please be sure to be ready to have your picture taken on Friday morning.

Student Expectations There should be no candy in school today. If you have candy, it must be kept in your locker and brought home at the end of the day. All food must remain in the cafeteria, if any food is brought outside of the cafeteria, there will be consequences. Students, hallway behavior must improve. You must walk on the right side of the hallway and keep your hands to yourselves. There should be no pushing, shoving or yelling. Students you should be going to straight from one class to another and not stopping at your locker between every class.


 

 

Scholastic Book Fair The Scholastic Book Fair starts tomorrow and runs until next Thursday. Shop the Fair to find great new books and to support your library and the makerspace. Don’t forget to bring in your loose change to donate to “All for Books”, where 100% of the proceeds go toward new books in our library!

Central Massachusetts Middle School Invitational LMS hosted the 3rd Central Massachusetts Middle School Invitational yesterday. There were 4 races and 435 runners at the meet. Both J. and Owen C. led the Wolverines with 1st and 4th place finishes in a field of 128 runners. Mike H., Justin C., and Tyler W. also finished as part of leicester’s top 5 runners. The Leicester girls did well. Lilith F. finished with her best time of the season as the 1st of Leicester’s runners. Ainsley Whittemore, Madelyn S., Serenity P., and Isabel V. all finished as part of Leicester’s top 5 runners. Each one took over a minute off of their times since their last meet.


 

 

Unified Arts Talent Show auditions are next Tuesday after school. If you are in a music class, you may audition Tuesday during class. Otherwise, please bring in a signed permission slip and plan to stay after school on Tuesday. Your entire act must be ready to perform on Tuesday! Permission slips can be found outside of the auditorium. There will not be Ukulele Club or Art Club next Tuesday.

5K Congrats to both Jason F. and Abby B. for their performances at the Canal Diggers 5K over the weekend in Worcester. Both students finished 2nd in their age groups. Jason also gave Mr. Everett a good scare finishing at a dangerously close 7 seconds behind.

Activity Fair During lunches today, we will have our Club and Activity Fair. Students will learn about various clubs and activities that they can join for this school year. Students, please bring your chromebook to lunch with you so that you can sign up for some clubs and activities through our Google Form. The form will be emailed to all students before lunch and will remain open through next week.

Memorial Day This afternoon, we will hold a Memorial Day Ceremony. Students will be called down to the gym beginning at 12:45. When you are called down, please enter the gym quietly and respectfully. Band & Chorus 6th Grade Chorus students will have first lunch today! Last Friday, before the 8th graders headed to Washington, D.C., our 7th and 8th grade band and chorus students competed in the Music in the Parks competition. Our chorus came in 3rd place with a rating of “Excellent”, while our band came in 2nd place, also with a rating of “Excellent.” Congratulations to all of the performers and to our chaperones for making this trip possible: Miss Dusty, Mrs. Wright, Mr. Vaughan, and Ms. Kender.

Track The Leicester track team competed at the Central MA district championship meet this weekend. Both Peyton K.and Abby B. placed 14th and 18th place in the meet. They competed in a field that consisted of almost all high school runners.

Early Release Reminder that there will be an early release day for students on Friday, May 10th. Students will be dismissed at 10:55am.


 

 

Track The Leicester girls track team ran well on Wednesday against Uxbridge despite taking the loss. Peyton Knott led the middle school girls in scoring with a first place finish in the mile to net 5 points for the team. Ayva Connor followed with 4 points thanks to a 2nd place finish in the 800 meter and a 3rd place finish in the mile. Hannah Collett followed with a 2nd place finish in the 200 meter. Abby Bernabei took 3rd place in both the 2 mile and 800 meter. For the boys, Cole Delage performed well with a season best 5:56 in the Mile, while Owen Collette ran his best 800 meter with a time of 2:38
