March Madness

Peer Leadership Peer Leadership yearbook photos will be taken this Thursday during lunch.


Cooking Club Anyone interested in joining the cooking club, please see Mr. Covert at some point during the day. Permission slips are due no later than Friday, March 29th.


Dodgeball Night On Friday March 22nd, we will be hosting another Dodgeball Night. Team signup forms will be available during lunches and in the main office. If you would like to participate and you do not have a team, please see Mr. Fontaine and we will find a team for you to play on. Students who are participating in Read Across America night may also participate and their games will be scheduled when that event is over. All dodgeball forms are due to Mr. Fontaine today before the end of the day.


Sewing class If you are staying for the Sewing class in the library tomorrow afternoon please pick up an after school pass from Mrs. Minton today.


After School Any student that is planning on staying after school tomorrow will need to get a permission slip from the teacher they are staying for. Please do not bring in hand written notes. If any teacher needs more permission slips, please call the office.

Sports
 Any student interested in joining the Middle School Baseball team or Middle School Softball team, needs to attend a mandatory Spring Athletic Meeting on Thursday March 14th at 6:00 at Leicester High School. Students should sign up through FamilyID. If you would like to participate and you can not sign up through Family ID, please see Mr. Fontaine. Any 7th or 8th grader that would like to join the High School track team, must also attend the meeting and sign up through Family ID.

New Trimester Just a reminder that the 2nd Trimester will end on Wednesday March 13th and the 3rd Trimester will begin on Thursday. Beginning on Thursday, lunches will also rotate. 7th grade will eat first, 8th grade will have second lunch and 6th grade will have last lunch. New schedules will be provided to students on Thursday morning in Homeroom.


 

Latin Club Important notice for Latin Club Students. The last Latin club meeting for the year will be this Thursday.


 

Drama Club All drama club students are required to bring their costumes and props to Thursday’s rehearsal. Rehearsal will be held until 4 pm.

Sports Any student interested in joining the Middle School Baseball team or Middle School Softball team, needs to attend a mandatory Spring Athletic Meeting on Thursday March 14th at 6:00 at Leicester High School. Students should sign up through FamilyID. If you would like to participate and you can not sign up through Family ID, please see Mr. Fontaine. Any 7th or 8th grader that would like to join the High School track team, must also attend the meeting and sign up through Family ID.


 

Sewing Workshop The introduction to Sewing Workshop will be starting a new 3+ week session. Learn how to make your own bag with a sewing machine. Spots are only open for 6 students so sign up today!

Book Fair The Scholastic Book Fair starts today and goes until Friday. Support your library and shop the Fair! We’re also collecting any unwanted loose change in our All for Books box. All of the change contributed goes directly back to the library.

Filming will take place at the Castle Restaurant and you will be given a full course meal. The cost is $6 to participate. National No One Eats Alone Day Next Friday, February 15th, is National No One Eats Alone Day. On this day, classmates from each grade are asked to step up and sit with someone new for a change at lunch. You are asked to interact and learn about those who you wouldn't normally hang out with. National No One Eats Alone Day is about being inclusive of everyone. So we ask you to stick out a hand on February 15th and greet someone new.

Walk a Mile in Eddy's Shoes Week three of the Walk a Mile in Eddy's Shoes was awesome. Memorial School and the Middle School led the pack with the most shoes collected. On Saturday, LMS CommuniTeen packed 44 bags of shoes with 25 pairs in each bag, for a total of 1,100 pairs of shoes. We will be collecting shoes until the end of March, so please clean out your closets and help Eddy get his van.

    Walk a Mile in Eddy's Shoes Week two of the Walk a Mile in Eddy's Shoes fundraiser was very successful. LMS CommuniTeen and their families collected shoes from 12 different locations around town. This week the Primary School and the Town Hall competed for most shoes collected. We are building a good stockpile and will begin packaging the shoes for shipment to families in need around the world. The fundraiser will run through the end of March, so if you have more shoes, please send them our way. Thank you for your help with this important fundraiser.


     

    Basketball There is a home basketball game on Monday after school. The girls play at 3:30, and the boys at 4:30. Come out and support your wolverines!

Walk a Mile Fundraiser The Walk a Mile in Eddy's Shoes Fundraiser had a very successful first week. We picked up bags of shoes from 10 locations in town including the four schools. Memorial School nailed it with two huge bags! We are hoping to have an even better second week. Please clean out your closets and tell your family, friends, and neighbors about our shoe drive. Remember, all of the proceeds from this fundraiser will support the Eddy Besse Van Fund. Thanks for your participation!

Also for January the Hillside Herald is holding a short story contest! Write a short story by the 21st and share with Ms. Ferdella. The Newspaper staff will select a short story to be featured in our next issue of the Hillside Herald.

Fundraiser for Eddy The Town of Leicester is trying to purchase a wheelchair-accessible van for Eddy Besse, a kindergarten student at Leicester Primary School. You can help by donating gently-used or new shoes, which can be exchanged for cash. Just drop your shoes in the collection box near the office. Thanks so much for helping Eddy!


 

NJHS There will be a Handbook Committee meeting for NJHS today during lunch in Room 11.

Ukelele Club There will not be ukulele club tomorrow; we will resume meetings next Tuesday. Students interested in helping out at the Valentine’s Dance in band/chorus and art club should plan to stay after school Tuesday. Those students must turn in a permission slip by Monday.

Olympic Foolery
 We will be following our Olympic Foolery Schedule today. 6th grade will have first lunch beginning at 10:30, 7th grade at 11:00 and 8th grade at 11:30. We will begin to call 6th grade students at about 11:40 , 7th grade at about 11:50 and then 8th grade to go to the gym for Olympic Foolery. All students will be called to their homeroom before going to the gym. Students should return their chromebook at this time and leave everything they need to go home with in their homeroom.

Locker Cleanout We will be doing a locker cleanout this morning. We will begin with 6th grade immediately following announcements, followed by 7th grade at 8:05 (after first period) and 8th grade at 8:30 (after 2nd period). There should be no food, or unwanted papers left in your lockers.

Poetry Contest Congratulations to Cole D. for winning the Hillside Herald’s poetry contest. Check out Cole’s poem in our next issue of the school newspaper, due out tomorrow.
Drama Club There is no Drama Club this afternoon. Drama Club members, be sure to fill out your costume and prop sheet on Google Classroom.
Latin Club There will be no Latin Club today. It will resume after break.
Indoor Track Indoor Track had their 2nd meet of the season. The Boys beat Woodstock Academy and Oxford. C. Delage scored in both the Mile and 1000m. The girls team beat Bay Path and Oxford. M. Randall scored in both the 55m dash and the High Jump. L.Jennings also scored in the Mile and 1000m. L. Field finished off the scoring with points in the 2 mile.

Come anytime between 4pm and 9pm and the Ski and Snowboard club will get 20% of all purchases to help lower bus costs. If you or your parents have any questions about how to sign up for ski trips, Mr. Everett will be available to answer questions there. Skiers and Snowboarders interested in club shirts should also see Mr. Everett to order one. Orders will be taken until 11/19. The shirts will be long sleeved.

Come anytime between 4pm and 9pm and the Ski and Snowboard club will get 20% of all purchases to help lower bus costs. Dodgeball Fun Night On Friday November 30th, Friends of Leicester Middle School will be having a dodgeball fun night. To enter a team, please see Mr. Fontaine during lunch for a roster form. The cost to play is $5, which will include pizza and drinks. Rosters are due to Mr. Fontaine by Tuesday November 20th. The event will begin promptly at 6:00 PM.

Food Drive Does your homeroom want to win a free Fun Friday?!?!?!? The NJHS will be collecting food for the Leicester Food Pantry. Please give your donations to your homeroom teachers. The homeroom that brings in the most donations will get a free period of Fun Friday!! We will be collecting Wednesday Nov. 14th until Tuesday, November 20

Auditions are tomorrow. You must bring a permission slip to Mrs. Minton tomorrow morning if you plan on staying after. Students must be picked up by 3:30pm.

CommuniTeen:
CommuniTeen will hold its first meeting on Thursday, November 15 in Room 8 from 2:15 to 3:15. The first volunteer activity will take place on Tuesday, November 20. We will be going to the Leicester Food Pantry. If you would like to join the club and attend the first activity, please get an information packet in the office. Permission forms must be turned into the office before the first meeting.

Voc High School:
Any 8th grade students interested in applying to a vocational high school need to see Mr. Vaughan for an application.

Indoor Track Indoor Track had their 2nd meet of the season. The Boys beat Woodstock Academy and Oxford. C. Delage scored in both the Mile and 1000m. The girls team beat Bay Path and Oxford. M. Randall scored in both the 55m dash and the High Jump. L.Jennings also scored in the Mile and 1000m. L. Field finished off the scoring with points in the 2 mile.
