Ms. Ambyre Dyson - Leicester Middle School Speech Language Therapist
The speech-language pathologist (SLP), Ms. Dyson, works with students who have communication disorders that affect their ability to access the academic curriculum and communicate effectively in the school environment. These students may have a variety of communication disorders, such as language-based disorders (including pragmatic language), voice, fluency, articulation, dysphagia (swallowing), and hearing loss. The goals of the SLP are to help students develop communication skills that lead to successful reading, writing, speaking, listening, and thinking - communicative skills that a student needs to be successful in the classroom and to grow positive relationships with peers and adults.
Ms. Dyson works with the multidisciplinary team to identify students at risk, perform screenings and comprehensive assessments to evaluate students’ communication skills, and help develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs). For students who qualify for speech-language services, the SLP provides direct and indirect speech-language therapy services, documents outcomes, collaborates with teachers, parents, and other professionals, and advocates for teaching practices that benefit the student.
